link showing up where it should not

I built these pages some time ago, using the Classic Editor (at the time, the only editor). Since the arbitrary move to the Gutenberg Block editor, suddenly a section of my page (displaying code that includes a URL) is now acting as a link. I am relatively experienced with HTML and while I have tried to comprehend the notes on https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-com-classic-editor-deprecation-faqs/, I have failed to understand how to use the Gutenberg WYSIWYG editor to change from Classic Blocks to the Gutenberg Block editor. Just to remove the active link that was not there when I published the page in 2015.

I tried (and failed) to do the following.

‘If you have a free site or a site on the Personal or Premium plan, you can access the Classic Editor by going to My Site → Pages. Hover over the page you wish to edit and select Classic Editor’ – [excerpt from https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/#how-to-access-the-classic-editor%5D

‘About Layout’ does not appear. ‘Classic Editor’ does NOT appear.

To repeat: all I want to do is to remove the link that the WYSIWYG Gutenberg editor automatically added when converting the page from plain old HTML to the ‘Classic Block’.

The following is the coding that Gutenberg automatically added:
    <a href=”https://mySiteURL>created by my name</a>

This is the coding I put in originally and would like to retrieve:
    <a href=”https://mySiteURL”>created by my name</a>

I hope those bits of code show up correctly in this forum!

    Please advise.

(It’s quite sad that the Classic Editor has been rendered so difficult to access and use.)

    Hi there!

Could you provide us a link to the page on your site where that is so we can take a closer look and better advise? Thank you!
