link symbol is greyed out
-
I am trying to add a list of links within a blog post but the ‘link’ button in the visual view is greyed out so I can’t add the link.
Also, I removed a link but it seemed to mess up the line spacing on my blog post. What am I doing wrong…..unfortunately I’m not very technically minded!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In order to hyperlink text within your post, you’ll first need to hyperlink the text that you want to be linked. Then, the link icon will not appear greyed out. Can you try highlighting the text that you would like to have linked first?
Here’s a quick video of how that would work:
Otherwise, if you would just like the link to appear on it’s own line, you can just paste the link directly into the post. We’ll automatically link it for you!

Can you let me now the title of the page or post you’re referring to? Happy to take a look!

Thanks! Here is how that post is appearing on my side:
When you say “mess up the line spacing”, can you let me know specifically what’s appearing out of the ordinary?
Also, it looks like you have a broken image set as your header (pointed out in the screenshot with the arrow). This can happen if you upload a custom header image, but then delete the image from your Media Library. You can set a new header image under Appearance > Customize > Header.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I wanted each link to appear on a separate line, so that it was more of a list of links. Is it possible to do that?
I wanted to write a sentence which contained the link when you click on a highlighted word (or a few words). I’ve seen this done on other people’s blogs but I’m not sure if it’s possible to do this on WordPress?
I’m sorry I’m so dumb when it comes to technical stuff. :(

Definitely! You can do this by pasting the links on individual lines in the post editor. Here’s a screencast example:
I just typed the link and hit enter to move to the next line. Here’s a picture of the finished result:
Is that what you’re looking for?

Definitely possible! You’ll see these referenced as “embedded links.” Embedded just means the links appear in the normal flow of words rather than having a link out in the open as in the video above.
To create an embedded link, follow these steps:
1. Highlight the word or words you want to be linked in your post
2. Click the link icon
3. Enter the URL of the location you want the words to link to
4. Press “Add Link”
Here’s a screencast of that process:
Give that a try!

Thanks so much for all your help! I’m much clearer now about how to achieve what I want to do. I really appreciate it. :)
