link to a category in a text widget

  Hello
  Is it possible to create a text widget that can have an image and some text underneath the image and also a link; but not a link to a specific post,;I’d like a link to an entire category (as in either a parent or sub category in my custom menu). My theme is not category friendly when it comes to showing any type of list or grid so I’d like to use a sidebar widget near the top of each post to highlight one specific category

  Oh, I guess that’s a “duh” question

  Sorry; still a newbie so let me make sure i understand: I just use HTML to create a link directly to the category as you’ve shown above, right?

  If someone clicks, will it bring up the latest post in the category?
