Link to a post in same blog, via Text Widget — can't do?
-
I’ve been trying to create a single link in my sidebar, to a specific post in my blog, by using the Text Widget as per the instructions found in the Support section… but it is not displaying properly.
What I want is for the words Contact the Archive to appear, and be clickable so that it takes the reader directly to the post (not page) that contains the contact form.
However, when I paste the HTML into the Contents field of a Text Widget (in exactly the format that the Support page appears to be saying I should do) this is what the visible result is:
<a href=”http://connoisseurarchive.com/2015/09/27/about-the-connoisseur-of-malvern-archive/”Contact the Archive
(with Contact the Archive displayed in bold, but nothing after that final e)
What am I doing wrong? Many thanks for any help!
(p.s. I do not want to use the Blogroll/Links widget because I want the link to be displayed by itself, with no ‘header’ above it)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I’m not an expert but have managed to get links in my own widgets so seeing as no-one else has replied, maybe I can help. Can you post the code you’re typing into the widget so we can see if it looks right?
If I’ve understood right, you want the widge to link to http://connoisseurarchive.com/2015/09/27/about-the-connoisseur-of-malvern-archive/
In which case, the code would be:
<a href="http://connoisseurarchive.com/2015/09/27/about-the-connoisseur-of-malvern-archive/">Contact the archive</a>Copy and paste that into your text widget and see if it works.

Perfect! I added the code for bolding and now it looks exactly as I wanted — have no idea what the heck I was doing wrong the other times, LOL :-D
Thanks SO much, and have a great weekend. :-)

Oh I’m so glad it worked. Thanks for letting me know.
As for not knowing what what wrong when you tried before, sometimes I find I’ve missed a <, / or > or put one of the arrows round the wrong way.
timethief has a good suggestion for an easy way of getting the code right by making a draft post and using visual editor. See his post here.

Oh, tt, I’m so sorry. Looking carefully at your gravatar now, I think I can see some long hair and a pretty top which might have given me a hint. But picture is a bit too tiny for my eyes.
Here I am female and pretty geeky myself but automatically seem to have assumed a helpful IT person is male unless shown otherwise. Gender stereotyping is so pervasive.
Many apologies.
