Link to dashboard missing from https://wordpress.com?
-
Hello,
First, a screenshot of what I’m talking about: http://imgur.com/MmvIKYr
When logged in, I recall being able to easily access the dashboard of my blog just by hovering over my gravatar, a list of my blogs would appear as part of menu options, and upon hovering the selected blog, I could click on the dashboard link.I haven’t seen anyone raising this issue in the forum, so am I hallucinating and this functionality never existed, or did I miss an announcement about the redesign of the page?
Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. Virtually everywhere else, the dropdown menu available from the dark top admin bar lets me get to my own site. But when using the reader, I have to go to “My Sites” and then click on my blog’s dashboard.
I would be happy if links to my own site could be added to the Reader’s dropdown menu, like we have in the regular admin bar; or if another dropdown was added to “My Sites”. Right now, it’s not very convenient.

The Admin dashboard link for every wordpress.com blog is in this format:
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ -
I’m not saying I can’t get to my dashboard–I can. I just wish I could get to it from the Reader without going to a separate page first, or manually typing it in. I have the same memory as the original poster, that we used to be able to to do this right from our Gravatar dropdown menu in the Reader, and now we can’t, and we miss being able to.

@timethief the question was about why it is not longer possible to get the dashboard from https://wordpress.com, not just what the link is. Thanks for pointing the info though ;)
@ecumencallife, I’m glad to see that you also recall how we could access the dashboard via the Gravatar dropdown.
Maybe a staff could chime in on the issue? Please? :)

The link to the dashboard of your primary site was removed from the dropdown a few weeks ago.
Did you have a specific question about this?

Same issue here.
Have to wade through a couple pages and then a post and FINALLY the dashboard shows up. It used to show up with the reader page as soon as I logged in. What gives? Why the change? It wasn’t necessary at all to remove this feature.

his is a small step we’ve taken toward a unified masterbar experience. This is an ongoing process and we value your feedback. You can always access your site’s dashboard from the site itself and from the Sites page:
As I’m understanding it, there’s frustration over the added step of navigating to /sites before accessing your site’s dashboard. I’ll pass that along to the developers.
Let me know if you have any other constructive comments. :)

Thanks for the clarification @shawnajroberts.
It’s great to see WordPress’ efforts to continuously improve the interface, but, what took one click in the past to get to the dashboard, now requires three: 1) My Sites, 2) the settings icon, 3) Go to Admin Dashboard.
And since, we by default land on https://wordpress.com/ upon logging in, there’s no other way around those three clicks to get to the dashboard.I think the frustration is self-explanatory here :)

I think what adds to the confusion too, is that the link to the dashboard from the dropdown is available everywhere else, like when I’m on this forum page, browsing someone else’s blog, etc… but not on the main page (https://wordpress.com), and that, in the end, leaves a feeling of inconsistency. (Or if there’s a UX argument behind it, I’d happy to learn about it ^^).
Personnally, when I log into WordPress, it’s primarily to blog (then check on the stats and the Reader), so I regret the loss of the quick and convenient one-click access to the dashboard.
Thanks for listening.

I definitely hear your frustrations. And the inconsistencies in the admin bar is exactly what we’re solving moving forward.
I’ll definitely put your workflow in front of the developers though. I think you make a really valid point that you come here to blog, and we’ve made that process less convenient.

Thanks!
With that said, I was totally fine (or simply used to) with the compromise of landing on the Reader page and having the one-click-to-dashboard deal.Well I guess, our voices were heard. Case closed for now :) .

Well, it turns out an announcement was made on WordPress.com News about the new My Sites section, and some feedbacks in the comments echoed the frustration in this thread.
I thought I’d post the link here, for anyone else who wants more info on the redesign and what the staff at WordPress.com is trying to achieve: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2014/10/21/a-new-my-sites-section/
