  I am trying to insert right into the content on my Home page, a link to my website (with a different host). I have tried working with Settings. Import/Blogroll as I read about but it’s not working. I cannot see anywhere else how to do this task. Any advice?

  I suspect that you are posting to the wrong place. Are you aware that there are different flavors of wordpress?
