Link to new URL on new window
-
Hello,
Using the Links widget for my menu setup, I have noticed there is no option to open de specific page (once the menu item is clicked) onto a NEW window. The result is that the new page opens on the current (Blog) main window.
How do I make it so I can see the content on a new window?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m sorry but you cannot edit the way any widget provided by WordPress.com operates. However, we can use our browsers to open all links in a new window or tab.

I don’t see any “links widget” on the blog linked to your username. But if you do use one, I have good news for you: you can change the “target” to “_blank” when you add a link to your blogroll. Details here:

I am afraid I was not exactly understood. Under de Appearance–>Menu, we can set up our “customized menus”. There are 4 options on the left: one to set the primary menu, one for personalized links, one for pages, and one for categories. Either one of these items can be dragged to the menu tree being set up on the right. If one of your menu items (or sub-menu if your theme allows it, like mine: zBench) calls a new website (the funciton of a “personalized link”), it does so on the same parent window of your Blog. What I wished is how to know call the URL using this “personalized link” item on a NEW WINDOW.
I hope this is a better explanation. Thank you so much for your help.

To my knowledge, you can’t tell your custom menu to open a link in a new window. But who knows? Maybe a volunteer knows a workaround.

Yep, you got it. You can tell it to open any URL, but it gets opened only on the same (parent) window. No “child”. This seems to go a little against the Internet “standards”…

By the way, on a different problem, I just this second tested your idea on a Text I placed on the sidebar with Html code. And indeed, with the “Target = _blank”, it now opens the child window the way it should. Thanks.

I found the solution and I want to share it: just expand the “Screen Options” drop down at the top right of your screen and check the “Link Target” advanced property. Then you will immediately (no need to do anything) find the parent or child OPTION (an added dropped down menu) _right at the menu/submenu you are working_. Note that this option does not show up unless you expand the screen option and SELECT LINK DESTINATION. Now, choose your link destinaiton option and just save the menu. That’s it. The menu you click can now open on a new window or tab. All the best.

I am so happy with this. I bet other people suffer to find this solution. Now, you can see my site, for the record: http://portaisdacabala.wordpress.com/
P.S. Is in Portuguese, but still.
