Link to Onedrive does not display
-
I have several links to Excel spreadsheets on Onedrive that have stopped working. It just displays a blank where the spreadsheet should be.
I have also tried creating a new link, in a new post, and this is also not working.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It may be an HTTPS issue, but please provide a direct link to a post/page where the Onedrive embed has been used.

Link to a post with a non-working Onedrive link:

In Chrome40 the Excel embed is present and accounted for (screenshot)
What browser are you using? Make sure that 3rd party cookies are enabled and that your flash is up to date.

Thanks justjennifer.
I am using IE 11 on a new computer (about a month old), and 3rd party cookies are enabled.
Adobe Acrobat did an update of Flash a few days ago, but I can’t find any reference to it in the Acrobat help. I wonder if that may be causing the problem. The link is displaying on my old computer (also IE 11), and also on the new one using Chrome.
I’m going to try downloading Flash and re-installing.
Also I have left a note on the blog for anyone who has a similar problem to leave a message.

Checking on the Flash Version, it says it is pre-installed in IE in Windows 8. The version is 16.0.0.305 dated 5th Feb 2015.
It says it is working, and the test animation worked.
-
In IE11 on my Win7Pro I can see the embed as well, so I don’t wonder if it isn’t something specific to Win8 (which of course there is an update to 8.1, but don’t know if this will resolve the problem). Since I can’t duplicate your computing environment, this is only a guess.
Perhaps browsing the OneDrive support pages on MS will bring back some confirmation or advice.
Sorry I couldn’t help further.
-
Thanks for the suggestions.
I’ve not had any response on my blog, so either its not a common problem, or no-one is that desperate to see the link anyway.
I’ll have a look over at OneDrive support.
Just for the record, I’m actually running Windows 8.1 on the computer with the problem (and Windows 7 on the one that works), both 64 bit.

On the Microsoft discussion site:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/forum/sdfiles-sdsharing/onedrive-links-to-excels-file-not-working-on/5f49f20b-8a92-4dd4-9f7c-51f7fe1aedef?msgId=db6684bb-28bd-4a6e-b8b4-89febd399134I got a suggestion to add WordPress to the compatibility view list.
This setting does solve the Onedrive problem, but in compatability view the stats page does not work, and quite likely others.
This does seem to be a WordPress issue, so is there a way to get a link to Onedrive working with IE11 and Windows 8.1, other than using the compatibility view?
-
Compatibility view on WPcom is not recommended, as you have seen.
I think you may be ahead of the game with Win8.1, but I’ve tagged this for Staff input about the OneDrive question. Please be patient while they get back to you.

Thanks Jennifer,
I have also had some response from a happiness engineer on this thread:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/after-weeks-or-months-my-excel-embeds-suddenly-fail?replies=15#post-2298399but so far no success.

Not a solution, just another clue on this. When I look on Chrome 40, I see the embedded document. When I look on IE11, I see the security warning (as seen here: http://snag.gy/omUOm.jpg) and no document.
The security warning continues for about 10-15 seconds, then the security message disappears and in another 10 seconds or so, the document appears.
-
@dougaj4 since you are already receiving Staff assistance in that other thread, I’ve removed the tag for their input from this one. You may want to refer them to this thread. Cheers
@susanhayse-Thanks for that. So far it’s been my experience that if a visitor has to wait up to 20 seconds for something to appear, they’ll be gone before it does. :)

-
Susan – Thanks for the input. I don’t get the security warning (possibly because I’m the owner of the blog), and the link definitely doesn’t appear after 20-30 seconds (or 20-30 minutes).
Are you using Windows 8.1? It doesn’t seem to be a problem with earlier Windows versions.
In the other thread one of the WordPress people has been able to replicate it in Windows 8.1, so I’m hoping there may be a solution around the corner :)
-
Actually, I’m using Windows 10 Technical Preview – so that’s another clue, narrowing it down to 8, I suppose! The security warning may just be a red herring in this case.

Aww, thanks @justjennifer! I’m going to try to puzzle on this Onedrive stuff tonight and see if we can figure it out.
