  I want to insert a link to a pdf on my computer, not on a website, without displaying the full text to which I’m linking.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Unless people are using your computer, that won’t work. You will have to upload the PDF to your media files. Just create it as a text link.
