Link to Website from URL Name
-
Hello. I’m trying to link to our website. We are using Name Cheap and have the following redirect two records set up.
(1) TYPE: URL Redirect Record. HOST: www VALUE: http://www.servebellevue.wordpress.com Permanent (301).
(2) TYPE: URL Redirect Record. HOST: @ VALUE: http://www.servebellevue.wordpress.com Permanent (301).
We want the link to work when someone goes to http://www.servebellevue.com and when someone simply types in servebellevue.com (without the www).
When someone goes to http://www.servebellevue.com a security warning pops up saying ‘Your connection is not private. Attackers might be trying to steal your information from http://www.servebellevue.com. NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALIDID
When someone goes to servebellevue.com is says ‘This site can’t be reached. servebellevue.com’s server IP address could not be found. Try: Checking the connection. ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED
Any suggestions on how to resolve these two issues? Thanks!

Your site here is https://servebellevue.wordpress.com/
Your namecheap domain is servebellevue.com and redirects to the free address.
www is obsolete and unnecessary. -
Hi there,
Can you give some more details on what you’re trying to do?
A 301 redirect simply sends someone from one website to another, so anyone entering servebellevue.com into their browser, will get taken to http://servebellevue.wordpress.com/ instead.
That’s what you currently have set up, and it’s working for me for both servebellevue.com and http://www.servebellevue.com and without any security errors.
If instead you want your WordPress.com site to appear at your domain, so that servebellevue.com is actually the address showing in the browser address bar, then a 301 redirect is not the correct method. In that case, you instead need to use the domain connection upgrade included in all our paid plans:
https://wordpress.com/en/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
If you want to create a link between https://servebellevue.wordpress.com/ and another website you have at servebellevue.com, then you don’t need either. In that case the only way to create such a link is to physically paste a link into the body (i.e. post/page content, the menu, or a widget) of each site linking to the other.
Let me know if you have any questions about this.
