Link tools are dimmed and when I click on one of them nothing happens.

  Why did the link command tool quit working. I was trying to update a post with a new link and the tool(s) are dimmed. I can’t even update the old links…please advise.

  Hello there,

  Just to clarify — when you open a post, highlight words in the post, and go to click the link button, it is gray? Or, are they gray before you highlight the words you wish to link?

  It is gray as soon as I open to edit a post. If I try to add a new link, it stays gray. If I click on a existing link, it darkens but will not allow changes to the link….it just goes back to the pre-edited version. Weird… huh?

  Hey there,

  Ok, it is natural that it is grayed out when you open the post…it will not be active until the text is highlighted. The link button should turn active when you highlight the text you want to link.

  The fact you cannot edit the link is concerning. Before you try to add the new link, are you able to click the Remove Link button? If there is a live link in your post editor, you should be able to click just once on the linked word, then click the Remove Link button. Do you have access to this button?

  Could you tell me if you’re using the new editor (blue in color), or the classic version (black/gray)?

  Also, does the same thing happen when you’re in a browser such as Chrome?

  Could you please send me a link to the post or page you’re trying to edit? What is the linked text you’re trying to edit? What is the old link URL? What is the new link URL you want to use as a replacement?

  If you feel as if providing me screenshots would even better describe your issue, please do provide them! You can simply upload the screenshot(s) to your Media Library, like any other image(s), and I’ll be able to access it/them from there.

  Okay and thanks for your help. I was using the old editor which was giving me the issues. I reluctantly tried the new editor version and wallah…..whata ya know..it works again! I guess I will have to use to it.
