linkbucks malware on wordpress.com
-
When checking the stats for my site I noticed some strange links in the clicks section going to a site called ultrafiles.com. I definitely did not put any links going to these pages:

When clicking one of the links, I was immediately taken to a ‘linkbucks’ page:

An executable file of unknown origin and purpose was downloaded to my computer:

I would like to know where these malware links are coming from and how to remove them.
- Are these paid ad links from WordPress (in this case, WordPress would now appear to be in the business of distributing malware)? /li>
- Has wordpress.com been hacked?
- Has my account been hacked?
- Have my viewers’ computers/browsers been hacked?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The staff say that there is a way for an infected browser to leave a bogus link in the Click stats that does not exist in your site and that your site is not infected
Use the OmniSearch function if you want to look for anything, links etc (remember to use a subset of the link also)
I have also flagged this for staff attention

This is actually a type of spam, and while not as popular as Comment or Email spam, Click (and also Referrer) spam is something you’ll encounter with any website.
When a browser clicks a link to go elsewhere, our stats record the destination of that click in your Click stats. Unfortunately, there are many browser extensions and add-ons (as well as even more nefarious viruses) which can falsify the click record, leaving behind their “spam” Click record instead. The same is true for spam Referrers (where a Referrer is the site a visitor came from).
This isn’t any infection on your own computer, and it’s not an ad from us, it’s just an infected visitor who is unaware that they’re leaving a false trail as they go about their daily browsing.
With that said, we are doing our best to filter out spam Clicks and Referrers, but like with Comment and Email spam, sometimes a few make it through.
