linkd but no images, see images to the right like zemanta had it

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I followed the instructions and clicked on the getty images NOT expecting to see the images on my draft. However, I published the piece at hibernationnow.wordpress.com and all I see are links, NO IMAGES> HELP. I talked to someone yesterday and they said the images would appear on publication.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, I tried hard to, I did copy and paste the image link to the post. I have used it successfully before so I didn’t think I would have a problem with it but today I did.

Ma’am is this in place of Zemanta?

    Food. GASP!

I am very patient, I am very sick medically so for me being patient is fine. I appreciate any help. Thank you so much.

Hey Laurie, thanks for reaching out here as well, but I’m still sad to hear you are experiencing these problems on your end.

This all seems as one big confusion when editing your posts, especially your last one (the one causing you those problems), which is why I’m more than eager to get this sorted for you.

But by now, I don’t think we will be able to communicate this via email or via any chat services, since the communication flow is too slow, I’m afraid.

[direct contact info removed per forum rules]

Again — I’m sorry for all the confusion we might have caused for you, but I am more than ready to make it up to you! I’m very much looking forward to your reply!

Take care & have a nice rest of the day!

    Best,
    Silvo

I am here and really feel either very stupid or confused. I cannot skype now because my child is sleeping but I am online. As you can see from my blog, the last one, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I tried a new piece and it didn’t work at all. This is really tying me up. PLEASE help. thank you. if I did something inadvertently can you go on my account with my permission?

    Hi there!

I’m happy to help you get your Getty images working correctly. I took a look at the post you linked to. If you open that post in the Text editor, you’ll see a lot of extra <div> and < code > tags. Are you copying this text from Microsoft Word or some other text editor?

When you copy from Word, you should use the Paste as Text button to help clear all of those extraneous tags from your content.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

You should be able to fix this post by removing all of those extraneous tag. Just go through the text editor and remove all of the stuff between the < and >. You can leave any “$ n b s p” characters. Those just signify that you wanted blank space, like several lines of blank space between paragraphs.

Let me know if your images still aren’t appearing once those tags have been cleaned up!

    Hi,

I’m afraid that I am not using Word to write my drafts; I write directly in the WordPress Visual editor. When I want to include an image, I used to browse suggest Zementa images using a theme word or two. Then I would click on the image I want and I expected to see the image in my draft. Now, I just see a link. Worse, with the new user interface that I found today, I don’t even see how to find Zementa images.

With the old interface, in a recently published blog (Food Gasp!):

One image that worked has the following HTML:
    <div><code style=”font-family: inherit;”>
    http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/169707511
    </div>

And one that did not work has this HTML:
    <code style=”font-family: inherit;”>http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/100955244

It looks like the only difference, other than the image, is the image that displays has the <div> … </div> wrapper. But when I inserted, or tried to insert the images, I did the exact same set of steps for each.

if you look at all the prior attempts for me trying to get help you will notice nobody really helped me get the problem solved nor did anyone even remotely tell us in advance of the change. even today’s change. i know i am not computer literate as most but please don’t punish me for that. I have been with wordpress for years.

    Hi there!

I’m sorry if I made you feel like I was punishing you. That wasn’t at all my intention. It looks like the threads you were posting on in the past were created by other users, so I don’t see them when I go to view your previous support history.

I’m sorry that this has been a frustration for so long. I understand that a change like the end of our partnership with Zemanta can be frustrating. I’d love to help you figure out ways for it to be less frustrating.

Thanks so much for the additional information about how you build your posts. That really helps me recreate the problem so I can find a solution.

I do see what you mean about the code tag being around both images that are displaying and ones that aren’t, however I think that’s because of an interaction with the additional div tags. I did some testing with your post on my test site so I wouldn’t mess up your site and when I removed all of the div and code tags from the post, all of the images appear.

Let me know if you continue having trouble getting them to appear after removing those tags.

As for finding images, I want to point you toward a couple of cool tools that allow you to search massive databases of copyright-free or copyleft images.

The first is a fairly new feature of Google’s image search. Let’s just start a search for something you want an image of, for our purposes I’m going to search for “cheesecake” because I’m totally craving it. Here’s a link to the standard search.

Now, you check out the toolbar underneath the search box, you’ll see “Search Tools”. Click on that another row of filters will appear. One of these filters is “Usage rights”. Under Usage Rights there are 4 filters:

    • Labeled for reuse with modification
    • Labeled for reuse
    • Labeled for noncommercial reuse with modification
    • Labeled for noncommercial reuse

These can be confusing, so I’ll go over them very quickly. Feel free to ask questions about these definitions if you need clarification.

“With Modification” – this means you can modify the images to your liking

“Labeled for reuse” – this means that anyone can reuse this image

“Labeled for noncommercial reuse” – this means that anyone can reuse this image, as long as it’s for noncommercial purposes

Photos that appear under any of these filters may still have attribution requirements, so make sure you read the captions or copyleft information on the images.

So now, with all of that information, here’s a new search for images of “cheesecake” that can be reused and modified.

The second is the Flickr Commons. I think this one is pretty cool because it includes a lot of library archives, so you can find some really cool quirky old photos there. This feature may not be the most useful since your site is about food, but this search is still connected to the entire Flickr community. They have a very similar license filter when you search. Again, make sure you check the copyleft requirements of each photo.

Here’s our Creative Commons “cheesecake” search in the Flickr Commons.

The last is the Creative Commons search itself. This tool allows you to select a source to search with and includes Google and Flickr as well as YouTube, Photopedia, Wikimedia Commons, SoundCloud, and many others.

I selected the Wikimedia Commons for this “cheesecake” search with both “use for commercial purposes” and “modify, adapt, or build upon” checked.

You can also see a few more search suggestions we have in our article about finding free images here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-media/finding-free-images-and-other-media/

I know this was a really long post, but I hope this information helps you find the images you want.

Let me know if you have questions about using any of these sources for images. Or if there’s anything else I can help you with!

i just wrote a post today, two of the three images showed up when I previewed and posted. One did not. there was no indication of anything different from the third image, it had all the exact information, embedding etc . this is still happening. what i find that i have to do is just find another photo which is very time consuming and as you must know, frustrating. can one person help to follow through? thank you.

  • Unknown's avatar

May we please know exactly which image did not appear?

Thanks for the update! Is this the post you’re having trouble with:

    For Just A Night

I see three images displayed there. The first one is of a bowl of potato salad. The next is of Gordon Ramsey. (I have to say, I share your love. I’ve been addicted to his shows lately.) And the final image I see is the Food Network logo.

Are you still having trouble seeing the images in your post?
