I had this problem, bur with my autodidactic skills, I think I craked it..
Go to your dashboard, select “Presentation”. Find and select “Sidebar widgets”. Drag one of your text widgets to your sidebar. Open the widget and write your link code in the widget.
Close the widget and save the changes. Wait for the whole shooting match to update and then “View site”
That should do it. Hope it helps.Exile.

How do I link to another site? http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/15/how-do-i-make-a-link-to-another-site/ -
You’ll have to use the HTML; the rich text editor doesn’t work in sidebar widgets. What you can do, if you don’t know how to do HTML, is make a practice post as if you were going to blog and put in the image and the link using the icons, then click on the CODE tab, copy the code, and then paste that into a text widget. You can then just delete the post you were using to format it.
