Linked to old blog instead of new

Hello.. I just had someone comment on my blog that when they click on my name on one of my comments it takes them to my old blog instead of my new blog. I have my new blog set up as my primary?? They said I should fix the ‘configuration’. I thought that as long as it was listed as your primary blog they would always be linked to the blog in use. I have abandoned the old blog…but have left it as a ‘journal memory’.

I just want to be sure people read my new blog, and don’t get sent to the other one when they click on my name. How?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,
Changing the blog linked to your username is not retroactive. All comments previous to the change will remain linked to the original blog. This cannot be changed.

This comment was made on my new blog.. in the about me section. When you click on my name it takes them to my old blog. It makes no sense since they are in my new blog…which I have more posts on than my old blog. I don’t even have any comments on my old blog really.

The person said they clicked on my name in a comment on made on my ‘about me” page and it linked them to my other blog… and I tried it..and it did. That’s not what I want to happen. Do I have to delete the old blog so that it will not go over to that one?

This is the blog currently linked to your username http://hugsunny.wordpress.com/ and on that blog on the About page there are no comments at all.

On my name.. Sunshine Stanfield… when they click on comment… I want it to link to Endless discoveries… how do I make that happen?

Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary WordPress.com blog which is http://endlessdiscoveries.wordpress.com/ and then click “save changes”.

Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

    This change is not retroactive.

    You’re welcome. :)

I just went in and did that… and it said “saved changes”, but when I test it out it still links to my old blog.. that is really odd. It is correct now in Dashboard… so odd.

    Not retroactive…got it.

I’m so sorry that it’s not working for you. :( You will need to contact Staff directly for assistance. Here’s the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

No, No… it worked… thank you. I was just being stupid.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh, thank goodness it has worked and this issue is resolved. Best wishes for happy blogging.

Thank you so much you have always been so helpful!!

I have another off-topic question.. how would I make a custom design for my blog? I have seen some blogs such as this one: http://justshortofcrazy.com/ that are really unique.. how could I do that? Is it possible with a wordpress blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

That’s not a free hosted WordPress.com blog. What’s possible with a WordPress.com blog is purchasing and annually renewable custom design upgrade and CSS editing a theme found here > Appearance > Themes.

You cannot build or use your own custom theme built from scratch at WordPress.com. This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template and we cannot access the underlying files and edit templates or themes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/

There are two free themes, Sandbox and Toolbox designed to allow maximum flexibility for CSS editing and creating new “skins”. Toolbox is more modern and includes a lot of support for CSS3 and HTML5, so it is really only limited by your skills and knowledge.

As you have CSS editing experience the upgrade will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but will not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. It does not allow you to remove footer links to the theme designer or to WordPress.com. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes at WordPress.COM.
