Linking a domain

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I have successfully linked a domain (that I had previously purchased) to my WordPress blog, but the address that shows up still says ‘wordpress’ in the address bar. I would like for it just to read ‘mydomain.com’ How do I do this?

Domain forwarding is not supported and will collapse.

An annual $13. in US funds domain mapping upgrade from wordpress.COM will be required after the domain name purchase made elsewhere.

    re: mapping an existing domain
WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible.

If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM blog, and as you own a domain URL already, you can see here for mapping an existing domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made, it and the domain mapping purchase here, each and every year.

Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually and a domain name purchase and domain mapping are included in the Premium upgrade bundle.

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL.

    See https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/

Your billing history will be at Dashboard > Store > Billing History
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/billing-history/

Your only options for payment are found here http://en.support.wordpress.com/payment/

It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

    http://jessicagabrielblog.com is not registered yet.

Is that the domain you are trying to purchase through wordpress.com and to map to from http://jessicagabrielblog.wordpress.com?

We all pay in full for every upgrade at the time of purchase. Make sure you read the comparison very closely do you know exactly what the restrictions and limitations on WordPress.COM blogging are: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard and purchase upgrades at > Dashboard> Store > My Upgrades
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/

Your billing history will be at Dashboard > Store > Billing History
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/billing-history/

Your only options for payment are found here http://en.support.wordpress.com/payment/

In order to map to a domain URL one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.

All that changes when you are domain mapping is the URL and nothing else. The content stays exactly where it is. What domain mapping does its create a seamless transfer between the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs to the new domain URLs no matter where they are on the internet. Visitors who click the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs will be seamlessly redirected to the exact same content under the new domain URLs.

See here if you do not own a domain

    Hello jessicagabrielblog!

I checked your account and found that you bought the domain mapping upgrade for “jessicagabriel.com”, but the mapping is not correctly set yet. To point your domain to your WordPress.com site you have to get in touch with your domain registrar and ask them to change the name servers to:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

When they are added, within 72 hours the domain will start loading your WordPress.com site.

Here is more information that can be useful:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/#2-ask-your-domain-provider-to-update-your-dns-settings

After that, you can change your primary domain from your free WordPress.com domain to your custom domain “jessicagabriel.com”, following the instructions below:
