  Domain Mapping or Domain Transfer.

  Domain mapping associates your domain name with your WordPress.com site, while your site is hosted at WordPress.com, your domain could be registered elsewhere, for example, with CrazyDomain, and you pay for the subsequent renewals there.

  Domain Transfer, transfers the domain registration to WordPress.com, meaning both your domain and site can be maintained and renewed from your WordPress.com account.
