Linking a separate blog to my WordPress.com blog

In order to have my information show up, I had to use pages and blog posts.
When creating a page for each subject, some pages did not show.Now I want to add a blog and want it to be somewhat separate as it will be used as a portfolio. I would rather have it incorporated into my existing site (blog) so that people can find me through the same name rather than creating a new blog.
Is there a way to get the pages to work properly so that I can use pages for my pet services and then use the blog posts for my portfolio? I am open to other suggestions as well. The ‘separate’ blog is for writing, and may or not be linked to my pet services business.

I think pretty strongly that you can do this. It will require some re-structuring of your current site if you want to do it. As you note in the first paragraph, using blog posts to fill page content isn’t a best practice. It works, as you have done, but now you’ll probably have to get the pages back in order before building out your blog.
Try to transfer the content from the blog posts you have now to the pages that share the same information:
Getting it to show up, as you said did not happen when you first tried this, might require either setting up a menu (https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/) or simply changing the links you already have on your home page to the “page slugs” of your pages that replace the blog posts (Read all about this important step: https://en.support.wordpress.com/slugs/).
Next, change your homepage from a blog post to a page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
With that done, all your items should now be pages instead of a blog. You can then use your Posts for your portfolio blog, and link to it from the home page either through a menu item for blog or another slug for your blog posts.
