linking custom blog to wordpress.com

Ok so I have the blog frederick.ostrenko.com linked with wordpress.com. I want to change that to frederickostrenko.com. The domain and hosting is through lunarpages so there’s no real association with wordpress.com other than this linking business. When I go to register a blog under dashboard > my blogs it only lets me add a “_____.wordpress.com” blogs and then describes how to map a custom domain to a wordpress.com hosting.
It seems there is an option missing here – the one to link to a blog not hosted by wordpress.com. How do I do it? I must have done it before when I added frederick.ostrenko.com I just don’t remember how.
Any help would be really appreciated.

Why do you need your external blog to be linked to WordPress.com? I don’t understand; can you elaborate on what exactly you’re trying to do?
