Linking Domains
-
My free WordPress account has 3 different domains. I used to have 2 of the domains linked/mapped to outside websites.
One of my domains is no longer mapped to its outside site. When I attempt to reach the outside site, the link is broken and I get a warning message from WordPress. I checked, and the outside site administrators have not changed any settings.
My other WordPress site that’s linked/mapped to an outside site works fine.
What is the next best step to re-establish the domain mapping/linking?

Hello there,
Can you please provide the URL of the site you require help with?
This support forum is specifically for sites hosted here on WordPress.com. Sometimes support questions are posted here, when they should actually be directed elsewhere, such as a site’s host.
There is a difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, which can be confusing. See here for a more detail: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Thank you

Hello!
The url is cdbucla.wordpress.com
The site I am trying to link the WordPress domain to is http://digitalbehavior.ucla.edu/ It was linked to this site in the past.
I reached out to the UCLA site administrators, but they haven’t changed anything on their end. Any help is appreciated!

Hello @krilt,
When I click on the URL for http://digitalbehavior.ucla.edu/ I can see the message: Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.
You can go here to upgrade and map the domain: https://wordpress.com/domains/add/cdbucla.wordpress.com
Here is a link about domain mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Hope this helps :)

Hi there,
Your account has never owned any domain upgrades on WordPress.com.
The site, cdbucla.wordpress.com, belongs to the username, stephenruizagentes, and that is also the user who used to own the domain mapping on the site. The error you’re seeing is because that mapping upgrade has expired.
Any admin on the site can buy a new domain mapping upgrade for that domain, but as you don’t own any other domains already on WordPress.com your account will only be able to add it if you purchase a plan. stephenruizagentes should be able to add a new domain mapping without adding a plan, as they still own other domains on other sites as well.
