Linking Gravator icon to email address – Contact Me

  • Unknown's avatar

I haven’t been able to find info about how to link an email address (in this case, my disposable address) to my blog, for a Contact Me button. Is this possible? And if so, how is this accomplished?

    Blog: http://c2c5e5.wordpress.com

    Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You build your image link like this:

    <a href="mailto:(email visible only to moderators and staff)"><img src="Image URL here" /></a>

OK, I’m now lost. What I did: Went into gravator on side bar, and pasted the image like in the link info, and also changed (email visible only to moderators and staff) to the correct disposable email addres. I may be missing the Image URL here?? (I don’t have a clue as to what this should be). So, didn’t work.

I then went into profile, and got into the gravator image. Was given the message “add an email to this account,” and then prompted by a msg “…including a link that will activate this email address.” Is this where I need to put the disposable email address?

One additional question, as we’re kind of sort of on the same topic …. I’ve seen blogs with icons (with lack of correct “lingo”), which when clicked on will take the reader to a website. When I attempt this feat, will the gravator concept apply to this?

    Thank you!

Yes, you need to put the image URL there. It is http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/48c281a1928beb58ed9e2017bdef3e40?s=48&d=identicon&r=g in your case, although there may be a simpler form. It’s just the URL of the actual Gravatar image once it’s been uploaded.

I don’t believe WP.com is set up to make avatars clickable, although it would probably be theme-specific. The link next to your name IS clickable, though, and that’s what the norm is. If you’re really, really good at CSS you might be able to make it work, but you’d have to really know what you were doing.

This is what I just learned … let’s see if I’m on the right track (obviously, the one you’re on and I am not!!). I went to the gravator image on my blog, and did a copy. this is what I came up with: 4f6cb5537ec5953d53f274b8f31f3b6b I’m seeing that its address is different that the one in your reply. Don’t know where the current gravator will take you ….. I changed the one on the sidebar to “custom,” with the disposable email address in it. I also used http://c2c5e5.wordpress.com (or something like that) and the original identity image (for lack of the proper name) popped back up versus my uploaded gravator image. Let me try out the suggested file name. I also just uploaded another picture of Casper, but I couldn’t crop it as well as the gravator image setup did. (and Lord only know what the clickable image on the blog is doing at this point!!)

I’ll let you know what happens!! And thank you!

Wait raincoaster ….. I’ll wait for your reply as to which of the file exentions you would recommend.

CSS ….. never touched it. Closest to it was an assembler programmer somewhere in my past.

Sorry, I didn’t think you were using the gravatar widget. It looked like a normal text widget. Paste only this into the gravatar link field that is right below “Gravatar link. This is an optional URL that will be used when anyone clicks on your Gravatar:”

mailto:(email visible only to moderators and staff)

Up and running! Casper, my cockatoo, is waiting to be “clicked” to send an email to my disposable email address!!! A fine job, thesacredpath!

Thank you all for your help!

You’re welcome. In one of those interesting twists, I spent the better part of my younger years, through my second year of college, living in Casper, Wyoming.

Tell your cockatoo I said hello.
