linking image to two sites

  • Unknown's avatar

I post articles from my site to my facebook. I wish to know if the images I use on these articles can be first and foremost directed to my page, and then if they can be redirected from my page to another site. The point is to make readers first of all come onto my page, and then have the possibility of going to a referent page that I may add. Please see the image on my recent article for instance. I wish it is linked to an external article. But making such external site only viewable when the image is clicked from within my site.
    thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I just want to make sure I understand you correctly. Let’s use your article here as an example:

    http://bimboamole.org/2014/03/02/a-profligate-national-honour-list/

You would like the image within that post shared alongside the post on social media channels like Facebook as shown here:

    Screen Shot 2017-03-20 at 14.04.20.png

When clicked, you would like the image to direct individuals back to the blog post linked above. Then, if they click the individual image from the blog post, you would like them to be redirect elsewhere. Is that correct?

If so, this should already be set-up for the most part. When viewers click the image or the post title from your social media profiles, they will be taken to the original blog post. Then, you can link an image to another site using the Custom URL option explained here when adding an image to your post:

Is that what you’re looking for?

Thanks Jeremy. Yea, by and large you understand what I mean. But let me understand the solution you profer: are you saying to link a different image entirely to this other site? I usually use just one picture in my post. So what I was fantasizing is the possibility of having readers click on the image/title from like facebook as you rightly said, and then when they get to my post and either by accident or desire click on the same image (within the blog itself) it redirects them to another external site entirely.
I guess you were thinking the only possibility is to have two images?

    Hi!

The solution I proposed would only require one image. When you insert an image into your post, you can have it linked to a custom URL. That way, whenever the image is clicked within your blog post, readers will be directed elsewhere.

The “other” image just refers to the image when it is shared to Facebook. So, for example, when I share your latest post to Facebook, the image automatically is shared along with the post as shown here:

On Facebook, that image will link to your blog post. However, when readers get to your blog post, that image, when clicked from your blog, will link elsewhere provided you have set a custom URL. Does that make sense?

Wao, wao. Nice. It’s amazing how many things are already existing while one is fantasizing about them :)
Thanks Jeremy, that works and rocks. thanks. I never tried the custom url before.
    thanks
