Linking in page bar

  I’m fairly certain that ‘page bar’ isn’t the right word, but I think you know what I mean. Is it possible to make one of those buttons link directly outside of the site, or will I have to redirect it?

  That depend on the theme you are using. This blog post explain how to do it, but do note that only the themes listed in the left column really work. The middle and right column themes don’t work at all or look totally junky with this trick.
