Linking issue

On my tool bar the link icon is not active. How do i get this icon active on my site. have more than the basic plan. Also I have two of four linked and the other two post i think I have linked but they do not show up on the home page. How do I link without using the tool bar icon (Which is not available to me) step by step process would be helpful to me. Thank you all.

When you are trying to use the link button, do you have the words you want to link highlighted? You need to highlight a word or phrase before the button will become active.

My problem is linking my post to one of my five categories. I received the below response from Josh. However, my link does not become active when I type in the name of the post and highlight it.
How can I link my post. I have now five posts and only two of them are linked. Yet on my pages of post it shows that all five blog posts are in a category. Yet if I go to my home page as a viewer and click on a category I only have two of my five posts showing.
I need help….thank you and have a wonderful blessed Christmas.
