linking of categories
-
good evening. can someone explain me is this allowed on wp:
-you put linking of categories in post to go to some wp tags, when searh engines are turned on.
-when search engines are turned off, categories in posts link to category on blog.and, i prefer this second option, that categories links go to the specific category on blog. but, i also prefer search engine cause that enlarges traffic on blog .
my question is: can i turn off search engine in control panel (my goal is that category links can go to the category on blog) and put my blog in some google, bing, or yahoo web master tools for signing in blogs?
simply, i want to avoid this your move.
is this forbidden in wp?
if something is not clear in my question, you’re free to ask, cause my not so good english.
cheers
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is no choice here. Every post you publish and add tags and categories to will be posted to the WordPress.com Global Tag pages, unless you choose to use the iNove theme and use the theme option provided by that theme. All links to posts appearing in your widgets will direct only to posts in your own blog. The Categories and Tags links either above or below your posts will direct to the Global Tags pages. Please see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/

To verify your blog ownership with the major search engines please see here. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
These rae the visibility opitons for your blog. Take note that if you choose either option 2 or 3 your blog content will not be crawled and indexed by search engines. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

“There is no choice here. Every post you publish and add tags and categories to will be posted to the WordPress.com Global Tag pages”
timethief, you’re wrong. look at this – few minutes ago i put the second option: ” I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors”, and in that moment categories in my posts link to archive of categories on my blog, not Global Tag pages.
my question is – can i somehow, with this setting, to confirm my blog on big search engines – like an usual site, ordinary site, not a wp blog? just to avoid your restriction about this thing.
-
The answer is “no”. Like I told you above if you choose option 2 then search engines will not crawl and index your blog content.
Read what it sayd please:
I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors – If you want all human visitors to be able to read your blog, but want to block web crawlers for search engines, this is the setting for you.
When you choose option 2 or 3 you are BLOCKING search enegine access.
-
ok, but if i have the solution to choose the 2nd option (cause categories link to my blog) and to let search engines go on my blog – do i have permitt from wp? :)
-
If you block search engines, then the search engines will not index your site and your tags and categories listed in the post area will go to your local tags and category pages.
If you do NOT block the search engines then the tags and categories listed in the post area will take people to the WP global tags pages.
If you use the iNove theme, you can turn off the display of tags and categories in the post area.
What you cannot do: You cannot have your tags and categories in the posts area go to your local tags and categories and NOT block search engines.
-
thesacredpath, i need category in post for visitors to know in start where text belongs.
“What you cannot do: You cannot have your tags and categories in the posts area go to your local tags and categories and NOT block search engines.”
and of course, i understand that. but if i found the way to avoid this, is that forbidden from wp company to use on my blog?

As far as we Volunteers are concerned you have not “found” anything at all that we are not already aware of. I’d like to suggest that you contact Staff directly as we have reached the point where our discussion has become circular. Here’s the link to contact Staff http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
Best wishes with your blogging.

“we have reached the point where our discussion has become circular”
timethief, i disagree with this. i think you gave me a wrong information about linking, and thesacredpath correct one, and i except that opinion that i cannont use this possibility, as the opinion from unofficial stuf of wp here.
anyway, thanks to you both for your time

There is nothing to say. The way things function have been explained. If you block search engines by choosing to make the blog private then all the tags and categories will direct only to posts on your own blog, and not to the WordprPress.com Glogal Tag pages. That of course means your blog will get ZERO traffic from those pages and from category/tag searches.
Provided you do not care that the blog content cannot be indexed by search engines that’s COOL. But it’s NOT COOL if you want your blog content to be indexed by search engines and appear in search engine results.
If you use the iNove theme, you can turn off the display of tags and categories in the post area but that’s not news to any of us Volunteers. What else is there to be said?

@wawyblog: timethief and thesacredpath didn’t give you “opinion”, they gave you information; and they both gave you the same (correct) information. To repeat:
A) In Settings > Privacy you get these three options:
1. “I would like my site to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Bing, Technorati) and archivers”
2. “I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors”
3. “I would like my blog to be private, visible only to users I choose”Uner option 1, search engines find your blog, and cats/tags under your posts link to the WP global tag pages.
Under option 2 or 3, search engines don’t find your blog, and cats/tags under your posts link to your posts.B) If you use iNove, you can go to Appearance > Theme Options and uncheck the options “Show categories on posts” and “Show tags on posts”. This, coupled with Privacy option 1, gives you search engines but no links to the WP global tag pages.
Apparently you do want search engines, and you do want cat/tag tabs below your posts, but you want those tabs to link to your posts instead of the global pages. As both TSP and TT told you, there’s no way to do that (automatically). The only way to do it is Privacy option 1 plus iNove with cats & tags disabled in its Theme Options plus manually created links to your cat/tag pages in each post.
