Linking posts to static pages

    Hi, I’m new at wordpress, but after doing a lot of research I’ve learned a good bit on the subject I’m on without having to find a solution to my problem. I want to not only have my posts on a normal post page, but due to the number of posts I intend on doing, I want to have static pages that display certain topics (music, movies, etc.). How do I link the posts to those pages so that in a person’s visiting, they can see them all on the post page and select ones on the static pages?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    This site is a good example of how I would like mine to be displayed: http://geeksandwich.com/

    You will need to create categories and assign them to your posts and then create a custom menu which includes these categories in the main navigation bar.

    From your admin bar go to Posts > Categories to create the different types, then assign each post from Posts > Posts > Quick Edit. Add these categories to your navigation in Appearance > Menus.

    Hi there, frostbite!

    I’m Dallin, one of the admins over at Geek Sandwich. This is one thing that I really wanted to make sure I had for the blog from the get-go and I actually only stumbled upon it by accident. Halluke’s advice is pretty good, the only thing I would add is to make sure that the template you are using supports menus. Some of them don’t. Send me a link when you get it set up or if you have any more questions, just send me an email at: geeksandwichblog AT gmail DOT com.

    Happy blogging!

    @frostbite.
    That’s good advice from dtippetts. Choose a theme that has the custom menu feature and create what you want in your top navigation, and it’s easier than you make think to accomplish. The custom menu allows you to customize your blog’s navigation menus.

    Have you ever wanted to have a different title for one of your pages than the label displayed in your site’s navigation?
    Ever wanted to change the order of the list of pages to an order you chose yourself?
    Ever wanted to be able to mix pages, categories, and random links in your navigation instead of your theme deciding for you?
    If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’re in luck! The new custom menus feature will do all those things.

    Instructions are found here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

    Currently, the following themes have this feature enabled: Twenty Ten, Structure, Vostok, Bueno, Enterprise, Notepad, Paperpunch, MistyLook, Under the Influence, Vigilance, Greyzed, Wu Wei, Blix, Freshy, Contempt, Ambiru, Digg3, Koi, Modularity Lite, Coraline, Oulipo, Ocean Mist, Tarski, Rounded, Albeo, Regulus, Andrea, Inuit Types, K2 Lite, iNove, and Fusion.

    An important concept to grasp is that every time we publish a post it automatically appears in Archives and also in the Categories and Tags that we have assigned to it. Here’a another pertinent article Custom menus arrive at WordPress.com

    P.S. The blog you and dtippetts referred to above is using the Bueno theme.
