Linking to a subscription page

I am having no luck in my efforts to provide links to my private page plus to my PayPal account.

I have gone to customize bar, clicked on menu where I was able to get the link to show below the header, however, the next time I logged in it had disappeared.

I tried to add my PayPal link but the site one disappeared, I then put the PayPal one in social which showed OK. Now when logging in both have vanished.

I tried placing them in the footer section but that just redirected me to the widget section.

The only option I can see is making a separate “page” for each?

    Any ideas greatly appreciated?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Are you trying to insert a payment link for PayPal? You should be able to do that from My Site ->Customize ->Menus -> Primary ->Add Items ->Custom Links. After adding the link, remember to click the Publish button in the Customizer, else the new menu item won’t save.

The only way to add such a link in your site footer would be using a widget. In that case I’d recommend adding a button rather than just a link, though. You can find instructions for adding that here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

I also don’t see any private page on your site. However, you should also be aware that private pages are only visible to people who have been added to the page in an admin or an editor role, so there’s not much point in linking to one. Private pages also cannot be added to the site menu or set as the site’s front page.

Can you please tell us exactly what you’re trying to do – what your end goal is – then we might be better able to advise you.

Hi @kokkieh – let me reference this forum thread. (I think @learnenglishhawke7 was referring to his Private (subscribers only) site rather than a page. I suggested he open a separate thread on his difficulties creating those custom links.) Thanks.

@kokkieh Sorry for the confusion with my poor use of terminology as justjennifer explained I was referring to a Private subscription site that I could make my readers aware existed. I shall try the custom menu again as I was having browser issues on the day I tried, I could have made an error.

As to the PayPal issue, I believe the simplest way is to just include the link in my acceptance of their viewer subscription request, however, thanks for the info on the button.

  • Thanks for the clarification, both of you :)

If I may offer a suggestion: If you use an image to represent the private site, like the site logo if you have one, and add that to a widget on your other site as a linked image, it might be more effective in sending people there than a mere link in the menu. Especially if you combine that linked image with a call to action providing some information on the private site to prompt people to sign up.

You can use an image widget to add a hyperlinked image to your site’s sidebar or footer, or a text widget if you want to add the image along with text.

Or if you want to take it to the next level with a proper button you can do use an HTML widget instead, as explained here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/beginning-html/how-to-make-a-call-to-action-button/#inline-css-button-styles

But do let us know if you decide to still go with the menu and have any further trouble adding the link there.
