Linking to pages from other pages
-
I need to link to a new page I created from another page, but I don’t want that new, linked page to appear on the home page.
Here’s what I need to do:
Link to this page:

http://andreamustain.wordpress.com/about/But I can’t publish that first page without it appearing on the home page. SO. How do I create additional pages that I can link to within my site, without them appearing on the home page? Would really appreciate some help. I’m getting pretty darn frustrated – I spent the extra money to make my site “customizable,” but so far that has proved incredibly difficult/nigh impossible. Anywho, hope someone can uncover a solution! Would really appreciate it!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Right now your page is set to post a link to every single new page which is created in that menu on the left hand side of your page. Instead, of having the site do that, you can create Custom Menus and only link to the things which you want to (which can be pages on your site, posts you’re especially fond of, third party links . . . whatever).
Here’s a help page which’ll guide you through that:
So once you turn on custom menus, create a link to your About page and leave it there, and then you can publish your Acting Experience page without issue and link it from your About page!
Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll be happy to help! :)

Thank you for the suggestions, but it hasn’t worked at all. That video just showed how to put stuff on the home page – it didn’t explain how to somehow put a link on another page. I created a custom menu but no matter what I do, it keeps appearing on the home page. Is there any way someone can help me figure this out very soon? I really need to get this finished.

Heya,
It doesn’t look like you finished creating your custom menu.
Keep in mind that the custom menu is a menu which will take the place of the menu which is currently on the left hand side of your blog, which right now just has the link to your “About” page. Where the custom menu comes in handy is if you want to create several more pages, but you don’t want them showing in that sidebar. This way, you can just have that “About” link showing and you can have the other pages linked to from elsewhere.
What you need to do is go into your custom menu interface and under the Edit Menus tab you’ll be able to add pages to your menu. Only add the pages you want to appear on your menu. Once you have the pages added, click save.
Then, click on the Manage Locations tab at the top of the screen. You’ll need to activate the menu you just created by selecting it from the drop-down menu and then click save. Your Custom Menu will now be active!
Now if you created a menu with only “About” in it, the custom menu might look the same as your original one. You can test it by publishing your other pages and seeing if they show up in your sidebar.

Hi there, thanks again for your help – I did all that stuff, but it’s not working. The only way I could get the menu to appear is as a link either on the home page (in addition to the About link that already appears there) or as a menu that appears in the upper right-hand corner of all pages (the home page AND on the About page). I don’t want the page I create to be accessible from anywhere OTHER than a hyperlink that should live in the body of the text in the About page. Make sense?
-
Yes, that makes perfect sense.
I went ahead and created a custom menu for you as I described. I activated it and tested it to ensure that it took over your default menu like it is supposed to.
Now you can add additional pages and they will not show up in that side menu. The only way additional pages will show up is if you add them to the menu titled “Primary” which is in the Appearance >> Menus interface.

I don’t know how you did what you did, but you are amazing! I’m sorry that I couldn’t manage to follow your advice myself. I really tried! Futzed around with menus, making new menus, linking pages to menus for hours until I wanted to jump out the window. Just couldn’t quite get it. Thank you so much! Genius!

It’s not a problem! I’m glad it’s working for you. Let me know if you have any other issues going forward!
