Linking URL to Menu

linking a page directly to a URL
Blog url: http://crossfitvie.wordpress.com/ -
I am trying to link an external URL directly to a menu tab. I followed the directions posted here http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ but it is not working. I have a menu header and some tab’s I would like to open to an external link when clicked.
Is it me or is the software of wordpress extremely difficult?!

You’re almost there. You have your menu built, but you need to assign it as your primary navigation menu via Appearance -> Menus in your blog’s Dashboard before it can replace the existing menu.

I’ve been on this page. From what I can tell I add the link and title it. That title becomes a page… I would assume that when you click the page it would open the link but it does not?

You have the menu set correctly, you just need to actually assign it as the primary menu, otherwise it won’t appear on your blog.
Go to Appearance -> Menus in your blog’s Dashboard, look for the “Theme Locations” box near the top-left, select your menu from the “Primary Navigation” drop-down, and click the blue “Save” button.

When I do this my menu items all disappear across the top of my page when I preview changes?

It should be replaced with the menu that you built at Appearance -> Menus. Would you please set it so I can take a look at what’s happening?
