Linking WordPress into site

I am sure this has been asked but I can’t find any information on it.
I am trying to have a separate blog in my website. I am hoping to link to the blog page in my site that I am creating with a button link. My web provider has the WordPress install feature but do I install it to a subdomain or a subfolder and how can I point or link it from a link in my site. Is the initial page for a WordPress document “index.php”? Like how the main page for a site would be index.html. I am also working through a FTP program. At this point I don’t care about having the site and blog look similar, I just want to keep my main site function with the ability to link out to a functioning WordPress blog. Is this possible, any information or direction on this would be greatly appreciated.

You need to inquire over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs are supported.
This forum is for blogs hosted here at wordpress.COM and things here are different.
