links

The links in my posts don’t work. Most of them don’t even display on the home page because they are at the end of my posts and the posts themselves aren’t accessible beyond the brief excerpt that appears on the homepage. The […] goes nowhere.

Hi! Right now I’m seeing “Continue Reading” with links that do work correctly — can you confirm you’re referring to the site you’ve linked here?
-
Yes, that’s correct. The links were not active and the “Continue Reading” was not displaying because I was in editing mode, apparently. It can be confusing.
On my other, untitled, page on that site, I made a headline block with the text all on one line (in editing mode), but when I published it, the last letter of text was dropped to the next line, which looked terrible. I don’t know why it wouldn’t display the same way in editing as it would once published. I had to make the text smaller to fix it. The text also isn’t centered. There is more space at the right end of the block than at the left end (before the text). Changing the alignment didn’t seem to make any difference. -
This is a separate issue correct? I visited your other (unpublished) page and I did not see any letters on a line by themselves. Can you take a screenshot of what you are seeing on your end so we can spot where we need to be looking?
To share a screenshot with us, you can upload it to the Media Library on your site, and then copy the image URL. You can see a video of how to do this here: https://d.pr/v/Fcnerp
Once you have the image URL just paste it into your reply and we will be able to see your screenshot, thanks!

It’s a related issue in that pages seem to display differently in editing mode (including links being invisible and inactive) than they do when published. I got around the issue with the line jump by going back to editing mode and making the font smaller. I just don’t see why there was a before and after version of that text block, with it displaying all the text on one line while I was editing, and bumping the last letter to a new line once published. I wasn’t going to leave it that way, so I shrank the font and now you won’t see it as it displayed. The issue with the alignment is still evident though. I can’t seem to make the text (Halloween) centered in the block.

I see that you used the “letter spacing” setting to make the text so spaced out.
One thing to be aware of is that this does add spacing to the end of each letter, including the one at the end of the word itself. I added the cursor to the end of the word so you can see there is extra space there at the end of “Halloween” and that is the space to the next letter.
There is not a way to have spacing for all letters except the last one, so instead you may want to consider using normal letter spacing, and just adding blank spaces between the letters manually with your space bar. Like so:
H A L L O W E E N
If you add the spaces manually in this way, there will not be an extra “blank space” at the end of the word, so it will correctly appear to be centered within the black background.
Hope this helps!

Yes, thanks. I think I’ve fixed it, although I just added a space before the first letter without going back to normal letter spacing. It looks OK in the Preview anyway.
On the subject of spacing, does starting a new paragraph (by hitting enter) automatically start a new block? Also, how can I indent a paragraph. -
Yes, hitting enter will start a new block. You can add a new line within the same block with shift-enter.
To indent your text, follow the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/paragraph-block/#how-to-add-padding-to-your-text
