Links and RSS
-
I note the advanced features of editing links has a spot to enter an RSS feed. But, it doesn’t appear to act like a feed and the link is to the feedburner signup page not to the feed. If that makes sense.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, can we have a link to your blog please?
And can you describe exactly what you were trying to do?
-
I guess I assumed the blog was linked since it is a blank form. It is http://liberalspirit.wordpress.com/ which is brand new and under construction.
What I want is an RSS feed as a link. That is, in the “Link” creation/editing functionality, there is an advanced section and within that is a box to enter an RSS feed. But, when doing that, it is not a feed at all but just a clickthrough to the feed subscription page. Check the “Quaker” link, and you will see what I mean. The system has moved the url for the RSS feed into the http link box.

I’m not too sure hich quaker link you mean. On your right sidebar I see two RSS feeds from external sites. Clicking on the title takes me to said sites and clicking on the little icon next to ’em allows me to subscribe to the feed of those sites.
Do you want those sites to just be a link instead of displaying posts?
Or do you want the RSS feed of your blog to be in the sidebar so people can subscribe to it?
-
D’oh, I’ve just seen the quaker thing. What’s the link to that, I think you just copied and pasted the wrong one..
-
I don’t think I copied and pasted the wrong link. I opened the RSS subscribe page on the external site and copy the link there which is precisely what I do to add that RSS feed to my Google Reader or to my blogger.com blog.
In the edit link page, there are two boxes to input urls. There is such a box at the top (Web Address) and another in the bottom “Advanced” area. The lower box says “RSS Address”. I am leaving the top box empty and adding the RSS subscribe feed url in the lower box. When I check the link in the blog, I don’t get the feed, I get the subscribe page. When I go back into the edit link mode, the RSS address box at the bottom is now empty, and the URL I entered there is now in the “Web Address” box at the top.
-
I have just tried it differently. Instead of leaving the web address empty, I put the blog address there. I put the RSS subscribe url in the lower box for RSS address. When I test, I get the blog screen but merely as a link and not as an RSS feed. Perhaps the functionality I expect is not available. But, why does the edit link page ask for the RSS address in the bottom “advanced area”?
