links buttons aren’t working

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
    I am having a lot of problems with WordPress and can’t seem to get any support on the site. WordPress.com’s support system said I needed help from wordpress.org (say what), which didn’t help either, claiming I didn’t have an account in the first place. Um, WTF?
    In any case, the most urgent problem is that when I try to write a blog post, the buttons for inserting links are grayed out, so I can’t insert links. Can anyone help?
    Thanks:)

    For starters we need the URL of the blog in question beginning with http to help us give you accurate advice.

    Also see on the difference: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ between WordPress.ORG and WordPress.COM

    This site is for the support of blogs hosted on WordPress.COM. If you have a self hosted site then you should get help at: http://wordpress.org/support/ the keepers of the WordPress.ORG software.

    @ladyvincenza,

    WordPress.COM is a hosting service that uses the wordpress software and is not connected to wordpress.ORG where the stand-alone wordpress software used on self-hosted blogs is distributed and supported. Since they are not connected, your username and password from wordpress.COM will not work at wordpress.ORG.

    To post questions about self-hosted wordpress blogs in the wordpress.ORG forums, you will have to set up a username and password over there.

    In general, to make a link, you first have to highlight the text in the post that you want to use as the link, then the link buttons will be available and you can create a link. If you don’t highlight any text in the post, then the editor doesn’t know what to apply the link code to, so it is grayed out.
