Links disappeared / can't add links?
-
So for the past two years (up until about 2 days ago) we have added many links to our articles, at least 2 per post. Today I wanted to write a new piece, and I noticed I couldn’t add any links. Whenever I do, the link text disappears, and the link itself is never added. The post remains empty.
I checked with our older work, and literally ALL of our links have disappeared. How did this happen, and how can I fix this? We need all of our links back, since they’re important for our readers and ourselves.

Please ignore the link they added to the blog, it’s not the blog I’m referring to.

Hi there,
I noticed I couldn’t add any links. Whenever I do, the link text disappears, and the link itself is never added
Can you please describe for me the exact process you follow for adding a link? Please include whether you’re using the My Sites editor, or the editor in WP-Admin.
I checked with our older work, and literally ALL of our links have disappeared.
That sounds unlikely. And I checked a few of your posts, and I do see links in several of them, for example, https://jnlteam.wordpress.com/2018/05/03/tmr-kusuda-aina-happy-thinking/ has three links added under the text: “If you’re interested in buying Kusuda Aina’s (楠田 亜衣奈) new single Happy Thinking!, please click one of the links below:”
Can you please give e a direct link to a post where the links are now missing for you?
Can you also please try using a different browser and check if either of the issues still happen there?

Thank you for your reply.
What I do to add links is as follows:
I click on ‘insert/edit link’, then add the url to the website I need, add a ‘link text’ and click on ‘add link’. This has always worked in the past.
However, if I do this now, everything works up until I click on ‘add link’. Then the line remains blank, and the link is not added. If I type the link text beforehand and then try to add the link, the text disappears as soon as I hit ‘add link’.It’s very odd you can see them because I have a screenshot made a few days ago, and one made today, and they do not show up for me. I have tried using different browsers as well. I tried the link you provided to one of my articles, but the same happens to me: I do not see the links, and I can’t edit them or re-add them.
Sadly I don’t know how to upload the screenshots here to show you, so instead I uploaded them somewhere else.

https://sta.sh/01c90flxsv6u This is how we view the article you linked from our site
https://sta.sh/0106sk70wuf5 and here is another one.The strange thing is the Facebook link DOES work, but all other links no longer work. And I have tried my phone, and it does seem to work on my phone. However, on my computer (mostly chrome, on firefox it has issues but does occassionally show links in some articles) it doesn’t seem to show up, and I can’t add any links whatsoever because they disappear when I click on ‘add link’. And I must add that my phone uses the same browser as my computer, which is why it’s so weird it doesn’t show up on my computer but it does on my phone. My co-writer has the same problem.

Hi tmr501,
Do you have an adblocker installed on your browser? If so, try to disable it and refresh the page to see if the links are still missing. When I disable my adblocker I see your links. I also see them on browsers that don’t have adblocker.
Good luck!
-
Hi Elizazh, thanks for the tip! However it only works for showing the links, I still can’t add any new links to my posts.
-
Update: my co-writer has no adblock and she still can’t see the links and also not post them. On their phone the links do show, but not on their computer.
-

I think they’re using chrome, but without adblocker. And I use the same browser, yet for me it works if I disable adblocker on the site, and for her it doesn’t work even without adblocker.
And neither of us can add new links to our posts. -
Have you tried using different links, eg to wikipedia or google and see if these go through?
-
Hi there,
I see from your screenshots that you’re using at least two adblockers that may conflict with each other. Can you please disable all the extension as well as any anti-virus/malware software you have installed and try creating those links again?
-
Are you using the same internet connection with your co-writer? If so can you please use a different internet connection (e.g. mobile tethering) just to make sure your internet provider isn’t blocking anything?
-
We’re using different providers, however it would be strange for our providers to suddenly block those links (since most of them are from the same website) after nearly 3 years of using them. Also if I copy the links in my browser (and not a wordpress post) they all work perfectly, and wordpress itself isn’t blocked either.
-
edit: she double checked, seems we are actually using the same providers. Our phone providers are different, but interner providers are the same.
-
I would suggest your colleague test on a different browser as well. Clearing cache and cookies might help.
I’m sorry I can’t be very specific, but on my side the problem was the adblocker, so I’m just guessing right now.
-
Yeah but for me that only shows the links now.. but it still won’t let me add any new links to posts, so adblocker isn’t the full problem. (+ I use the adblock browser on my phone and it shows the links just fine there too, which is odd)
I’m glad I can see the links now, but I still don’t understand why I can’t add new ones without them deleting text and not showing up when I publish
-
Are you by any chance copying the links from somewhere or you write them manually? Sometimes copying them from MS Word for example could cause problems because of the quotation marks used there.
-
I’m curious if working from the classic, wp-admin, dashboard will help. Try adding
/wp-admin/
to the end of your site address.
Then, on the left hand menu, click on Posts and try adding a link to the post text.
Let me know if that works.

@elizazh I copy all URLs straight from their original websites, not from Word. And this has always worked in the past for us.
staff-zinnia Sorry for the confusion on my side, English is not my first language and I suck at computer related things. Do you mean at the end of our wordpress website url? And how do I do this?
