Links in my sidebar have vanished

  • Unknown's avatar

Hey, suddenly the series of links I have to other blogs I like – which is usually found in my sidebar (to the right of the page) have totally vanished! They are still there when I go to look at ‘Links’ within the Dashboard, but just not appearing live on my site all of the sudden.

Can someone please tell me what’s going on?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Go to appearance > widgets and if the “links” widget shows as being in the sidebar, click on the right end of the blue bar, click “remove” and then after it saves the change, move the links widget back over to the sidebar and place it in the position you want.

Same thing has happened to me. My links have disappeared from the sidebar. (http://winecountryukefest.wordpress.com) I did go to “appearance” and the links widget does not appear in the sidebar. However, when I try to move it there nothing happens…it pops back to where it was. In playing around with it I removed another widget from the sidebar and now it won’t go back either. Hope someone can help.

Same with my Blog. When I try to drag Links to the sidebar I get a message: ‘There are no options for this widget.’

My blogroll disappeared from sidebar sometime last week.

Suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. :)

Same as gwenx…when I drag it, get the message ‘There are no options for this widget.’

Yes, there are no options for this widget. You just drag it in place to have your links in the sidebar. Links themselves are managed via the Links section of the dashboard sidebar, not via the widget.

This seems to be a MistyLook issue with no options in the widget right now although I have not checked other themes with the exception of vigilance. Vigilance shows options (and some new ones) when you click on the links widget to edit it. The options in vigilance are:

A “links pulldown that lets you select “all links”, or you can selection an individual “links” category that you have setup and assigned to your links. If you select a links category from the pulldown, then only the links in that category will be displayed in the widget on your blog. I expect this new links widget will end up in all themes at some point, and I suspect that we will then be able to insert multiple links widgets and then set each individual widget to show only the links from a chosen links category.

These are the additional settings in the new links widget:

    Show Link Image
    Show Link Name
    Show Link Description
    Show Link Rating

@tsp: Apparently this is the updated widget, and they haven’t made it work in all themes yet. I checked many themes: of those I checked, only Misty Look and Fadtastic still have the old one.

But this has nothing to do with the solution to the above complaints. At the moment the solution, as you’ve also pointed out, is just adding the thing back.

When editing links we are also getting:
    Order by Link ID
    Order by Name
    Order by Address
    Order by Rating

I’m just pointing out that there is a widget upgrade that is under way and apparently we will have additional options that some have wanted such as being able to have multiple links widgets in different places with different links displayed in them.

I used MistyLook for a long time, and as far as I can remember it always had options in the links widget such as those listed by Tess, and now it has “no options”.

  • Unknown's avatar

Maybe I’m remembering wrong and the links widget never had options.

  • Unknown's avatar

Actually, I use sandbox, and I also had some widget issues today.

Clearly, *something* is going on, but I don’t know what.

the Meta widget disappeared, and things were slightly re-ordered.

Oh, and the Pages widget is all wonky, too.

FYI – My Blogroll has been restored as of a few hours ago. Thanks for all your feedback; someone was apparently listening. ;)

  • Unknown's avatar

All my links have gone, too. Odd.

@membracid: What is going is that they’re updating the widget codes. If one of your widgets is gone, just go to Appearance>Widgets and add it back.

@cobweb: Link to your blog please. The site linked to your nick is not a wp.com blog.

@tsp: The Links widget never had any options. Check this for instance:

@tsp: Note we’ve got a new widget too: Home Link!

  • Unknown's avatar

I use ChaoticSoul and mine just vanished.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m not seeing it? Is it only in some themes?
Or is my test blog messed up again?

For support on a particular theme please contact the developer! Who is (for MistyLook) Sadish Bala – http://wpthemes.info/contact/ – I know it’s not the most helpful but it is the most effiecient!

    James.
