Links issue
-
I am having trouble adding links to text in my posts. I select the text, then click on the Insert/Edit icon, type the URL I want to link to and then click Update. I believe that previously the option to save was “Add Link” instead of “Update”. Anyway, when I click on Update, it boots me out of the Edit Post screen, all the way back to the dashboard, without saving the link.
The problem started today. I am using Mozilla Firefox 8.0 but also tried using Internet Explorer. When I shut my computer down last night, it automatically installed some browser updates.
Is anyone else having problems inserting links?
Thanks for your help!

How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.
Are you using http:// or https:// see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

One of the security updates could be the cause of this. Let’s eliminate the possibility of a browser add-on or extension being the cause first though. Will you please deactivate all browser add-ons and extensions log out and then reboot and log in again and see if you can add links? If you can’t then will you try temporarily disabling your security program?

I logged out of my WordPress account then re-booted and logged back in. This seems to have resolved the problem. I realize now that I should have tried that first because I can’t count how many times I’ve fixed a problem simply by re-booting.
Thanks very much for all your help!

That’s great news and now you know how to troubleshoot in case this ever happens to you again. You’re welcome and best wishes for trouble-free blogging. :)

This is of course completely off topic, but I am actually looking to buy a new computer next week and have been reading up on the whole PC vs MAC debate. Ever since I bought (and fell in love with) my iPhone4, I’ve leaning towards going with the MAC.
If you have any advice for someone considering a MAC, I’d love to hear it.
I’m looking at the Apple iMac 21.5″ Intel Core i5 Computer (MC309LL/A)
Thanks!
