Links not appearing

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello. Today I changed the dates of some posts to the past. When I tried to link them on my index using the button of the text editor, the code appeared, but not the visual effect (blue/purple color underlined). I saved the page, cliked in “view” and the visual effect still did not appears. And clicking on the title where is the link, it does not leads me to the post page.

    What can possible be wrong?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Can I have a URL of the post where you are seeing this?

  • Unknown's avatar
  • So, looking at the saved versions of that page, it looks like the link you were working on was “Planos da AMD para 2012 e 2013”.

I am not having any trouble with that link. It is active and takes me to the correct page.

Are you still not able to seen that link on the page you posted above? Or were you working on a different link? If you were working on a different link, then it appears that your changes did not save (because there is no record of it in the page versions), so I would encourage you to make the same changes again and save once more.

No, the link I was trying to add is on “Por que a bateria do iPad 3 é maior”. But I saw now that the code is not appearing anymore, simply nothing happens when I save.

The older. I like it, don’t see any reason to change to the newer.

  • And your browser is up to date? Have you tried a different browser to see if the problem still occurs?

Can you go here and make sure that you have 3rd party cookies enabled:

    Preview Problems and Third-Party Cookies

That shouldn’t be the issue, but it is an easy thing to check.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, it is up to date: Mozilla Firefox 36.0.1.
I tried now on Google Chrome 41.0.2272.89 m (latest version) and the problem happened equally, the link doesn’t appears.
The page you linked say that 3rd party cookies are enabled.

  • I am at a loss as to what is happening here. I cannot replicate it myself and I am not hearing any other reports of this.

Have you tried entering the HTML in manually? Or perhaps using the newer editor to see if that makes a difference?

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried now: entering the code manually makes it work!

I don’t know how to access the newer editor. I tried to edit the page from the new blue administration page, but it leads me to the old editor.

    Hi there!

I’m glad that entering the HTML directly worked for you! Thanks for letting us know.

The new editor can be used to create and edit posts, however it’s not yet available for pages. It will be, though!

Could you tell me if there are any links that still aren’t displaying properly? If so, will you link me to the precise and and point out the link? I can do some testing for you this way!

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Entering the code manually made the links work. I linked all posts I wanted to link, so by now there are no links not being displayed. However, I tested and the link button still doesn’t generates links.

Another problem that I’m having, related to this, is that when I select, on the old editor, which header I want to apply, it applies not only to the selected text, but to all the text. Then I need to enter the code manually.

    Hey there,

Another problem that I’m having, related to this, is that when I select, on the old editor, which header I want to apply, it applies not only to the selected text, but to all the text.

Are you, by any chance cutting and pasting your text from Microsoft Word, or another word processing application? Or, are you typing directly into your Post editor in WordPress.com?

    Regarding links:

    1. When you highlight a word or phrase, is the link button active? Or is it still grayed out?
    2. If it is active, and you push the button, does the popup box appear for you to fill out the link URL, or does the button not depress at all?
    3. If the button does depress, and you are able to enter URL information, does it appear as if the link has been created? Or once the link URL form is filled out, does nothing else occur?

If you log into your editor in another browser such as Chrome, does the same error occur?

Looking forward to hearing back from you on all of this. Thank you!

    I’m typing directly.

    1. When I select text, the link button turns from light grey to dark grey;
    2. when I push the link button, the window appears asking for address and title;
    3. when I press “add link”, the window close but nothing is changed, neither on visual or textual mode.

I tried Google Chrome now and the same error occurs.

    Hi there!

Thank you so much for this detailed description. It’s VERY helpful.

I tested your link button by following the same steps that you’ve provided. There wasn’t a problem for me.

Please make sure that you are including the http:// in the URL field in the Link box that pops open when you click your link button in your toolbar. If you do not, the link will disappear and not be installed.

If you’re doing this, and still struggling, I’d like to see a screencast of your process. We are unable to recreate the problem you’re having, so it will help us to see what you see.

If you’re not sure how to create a screencast, you can do so with a free online application like this one:
    http://www.screencast-o-matic.com/

Once you have that video, let me know and I’ll let you know how to get that to me.

    Thank you again.

About the problem with headers: I made a post today and noted that I’m writing the post on Notepad and pasting on the WordPress editor.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Ah! Thanks for the follow-up.

When you paste your text from Notepad into WordPress.com’s post editor, could you please add it under the HTML tab, rather than the Text tab?

Once the text is pasted, move to the Visual tab and do your formatting. Add your link under the Text tab.

Give that a try…let me know how it works for you! Thanks!

Here is my Screen-o-Matic. I noted that this happens only when I use “HTTPS”. When I use “HTTP” the link is created.
