Links Not Working After Import
-
I recently imported my site from Blogger.
The link structures of blogger and WordPress are similar, but different.
Blogger only uses year and month (2014/05) and WordPress is using full date (2014/05/09).
Some of the links transferred just fine despite this difference. Somehow, WordPress figured it out and add it the correct date.
However, some of the links did not transferred correctly. As an example of a working transfer:
http://mommyhiker.blogspot.com/2014/05/food-series-baked-golden-beet-chips.html
transferred as
https://mommyhikerdotcom.wordpress.com/2014/05/23/food-series-baked-golden-beet-chips/
As an example of a link NOT working:
http://mommyhiker.blogspot.com/2014/05/food-series-ultimate-mommyhikercom-make.html
transferred as
The problem is, there are a lot of pointers on Social Media with hundreds of shares over years that bring a great deal of traffic to my website everyday. There is no way for me to fix the not working links on WordPress (I cannot edit the “folder” structure, which is the date part; I can only edit the “page name”).
Can anyone help me find out if there is a workaround this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Jennifer!
I’m not very clear on how the new links didn’t transfer correctly. When I visit the following:
https://mommyhikerdotcom.wordpress.com/2014/05/23/food-series-baked-golden-beet-chips/
https://mommyhikerdotcom.wordpress.com/2014/05/09/food-series-ultimate-mommyhiker-com-make-ahead-camping-meal-guide/Both posts appeared fine. Can you please clarify on that?
If you’re referring to the shared links on your old blog not redirecting to the new ones, I’m pretty sure they’ll redirect automatically once you activate mommyhiker.com as your Primary Domain. However, note that the share numbers will not be the same due to the different link structure you pointed out.

Hi druesome!
mommyhiker.com is already activated or do I need to do something else after changing the DNS settings? thanks!

Ok, I just made mommyhiker.com my primary domain and some links still are not working properly.

Hi Jennifer!
Sorry about the slow response. I’ll ask our devs if a workaround is possible, and will get back to you once I have more information. Thanks for your patience!

Hi Jennifer! Our devs put in a fix that should get most of your Blogspot links working again. The issues stems from the fact that the post slugs from Blogspot were significantly different from the new ones on WordPress.com. Here’s an example:
Blogspot:
http://mommyhiker.com/2013/02/teaching-tots-importance-of.html
WordPress.com:
For the link to work again, the post slug on WordPress.com had to be changed to:
[Family Volunteering Series Pt. 2] Teaching Tots the Importance of Environmental Stewardship
If you find that some links that still do not work, you will need to change their post slugs to match the previous ones on Blogspot. For more information on post slugs and how to edit them, please refer to this support page:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/slugs/
Thanks!
