Links showing as URL not Title

  My links are showing as the URL rather than the title that I’ve given it.

  I am following the instructions as shown here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

  Can anyone help?

  Hi. Are you using the HTML or the visual editor?

  Are you typing the text first, highlighting it and THEN clicking on the link icon?

  What text are you typing and highlighting? The URL or the actual description?

  I type out the URL and then click the link button. The resulting dialogue box has the URL pre-completed and it allows me to type in a title. I then press the Update button. Back in the editing page the link shows as the URL as it does when I publish.

  That’s the problem.

  Prior to clicking on the “link” icon, type whatever text you want your link to show.

  You only need to type the URL in the dialog box.

  The “title” field in the dialog box is only a short description that appears when you hover your mouse pointer over the link in question. It is NOT the link text itself.
