Links to images

I want to upload photos of food and then have a link people can click on to get to the recipes. However, I do not know how to create those new links in the first place without creating a new page which I do not want to do. I also don’t really want to have to create 50 new posts for each recipe… I am really not sure what the best option is. I have looked at other food websites and I notice that when you click on the image it takes toy to a unique page for each image- how do I set that up?

  • Hi there,

Is there a particular reason why you don’t want to create a new post/page for each recipe? That’s exactly how most food websites do it, and is really the best and the simplest :)

The only way to have each recipe on its own page is to create a separate page for each, though the better option is to use blog posts for this. That way people can subscribe to your site and get notified each time you publish a new recipe. Using posts is also better for SEO, i.e. there’s a better chance your recipes will come up in Google search results if you use posts as opposed to static pages.

Then to create the clickable images, first make sure you assign each post a featured image:

Then you have a couple options based on what theme you’re using:

If you’re using one of our newer block themes, on your front page you can use either a Blog Posts block or a Query Loop block to list out your posts. You can configure both those blocks to only display the featured images as post thumbnails, you can display the featured image and title, or the featured image, title, and a short excerpt of the post.

Or you can use a classic theme that is designed with a grid layout on the front page that automatically use featured images as thumbnails. Dyad in particular is very popular with food bloggers:

Let me know if you have any questions.
