Links to Media
-
I have a page that creates a list of links to PDF files that I have uploaded into my media files section. When I upload those files, they appear to be organized by date (e.g., the link will be something like — http://fishr.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/chapter11.pdf). If later, I want to upload a modified version of chapter11.pdf it will appear as a different link due to the link containing the date in it. In this case, I need to then change the links on my pages to this document, whereas I would prefer that the newly modified file simply replaces the old file such that any links that I made to it will remain the same.
Is there a solution to this issue? Should I be uploading files in a different way? Can I link to them in a different way?
Thanks in advance for the help.

No, there’s no solution if you upload the files to your blog: if you re-upload the same file a different month the date in the URL will be different, and if you re-upload it the same month the name will be different (“chapter11.pdf” will become “chapter111.pdf”), even if you have deleted the previous version.
If you need non-changing URLs, you need to upload the files to a free file hosting site that allows replacing and gives direct URLs (for instance Fileden). -
justpi,
Thanks for the help, though that news is unfortunate. I had thought of the file hosting site route but did not find a site that met my needs. So, also thanks for the heads-up on Fileden (any other suggestions would also be welcome). Thanks again for the prompt and useful answer.

You’re welcome. Other candidate is Kiwi6.
