Links Widget (Blogroll) not showing
-
Forgive me for starting a new thread on the Blogroll widget (aka Links widget) – I realise that there are some others below but the problem I’m having seems to be slightly different from each. I’m not sure whether there is anything I can do to solve it, but would be very grateful for any advice.
My problem is that I can’t seem to add my Blogroll to either of my sidebars (there is no Add link). Although Widgets seems to think that I have added the Links widget, I can’t see my Blogroll on the site (engageonline.wordpress.com).
A bit of background: if I go and look at my Link Categories, I can see that there is indeed a category named ‘Blogroll’. Unlike the other categories, ‘Blogroll’ doesn’t have a checkbox, so I can’t do anything to it. So that looks fine.
When I look at my Edit Links page and view the Blogroll category, I can see I have 3 Links categorised as Blogroll (and some other Categories), and these are all set to Visible. That looks fine too.
But when I go to Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets to attempt to add the Links widget to my Right Sidebar:
If I Show All Widgets, I can see that the Links widget is in that list but neither the Links nor Pages widgets have an Add link.
If I Show Unused Widgets, I can’t see the Links widget (nor the Pages widget, if that matters) – WordPress seems to think I’ve added them.
If I Show Used Widgets I can see ‘Links:Blogroll in the list (but the category which is associated with Links seems to be whichever one appears first when the Link Categories list is sorted alphabetically). For some reason I can see two Categories in the list. I can also see Pages.
The Theme I’m using is Garland, adapted so that ul.primary-links set to display:none. This hides the Pages. I’ve experimented with setting ul.primary-links to actually display – then I can see my Pages (displaying where I don’t want them, horizontally along the top edge) but I still don’t see my Blogroll.
But whatever I do, no Blogroll / no Links widget is appearing on my blog.
Any suggestions gratefully received. Many thanks in advance.

We cannot help without a link to your blog. And consider linking it to your user name as explained in the sticky, 8 Things, at the top of the forums.

Thanks Vivian. I did provide the address but failed to link it – here it is: http://engageonline.wordpress.com.

@miravogel: Were you previously using another theme? If so, switch back to that theme, remove all widgets, save changes and switch to Garland again.

I’m having almost the same problem. I go to widgets, see the “Links” option but there is not “Add” link there in front of it. Someone help please…

— another thing I noticed, when I add new links to my blogroll on another blog of mine, it automatically goes to the “blogroll” category, and it took a few days for it to let me click the appropriate box. That happened in blog #1
blog #2 is the globalpoliticalstudy one.
I imported that blog from blog #1, so I wonder if the problem carries over from #1. I’m not sure. -
(sorry for 3 posts..)
by “it automatically goes to the blogroll category”, I meant, “instead of going to the category box I clicked the link to be in, it would go into “blogroll” no matter what, disregarding my selection of another category”. -
Hmmm…. I just deleted all my widgets in use on the globalpolitical blog, and the blogroll shows up. But it seems to just be the default widgets for the theme (andreas09). So, now they are visible on the blog, but, I cannot manipulate them in the widgets menue.

I have the same problem – if I select ‘Show Used Widgets’ I can see ‘Links’ in the list on the left but the widget does not show up on the Current Widgets list, nor on my actual blog.

When on the widgets page, with the messed up sidebar selected, click the “save changes” button at the bottom of the list. For me that brings things back to normal or at least it has been so far.

Also, then log out, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then visit your site.

Thanks thesacredpath – tried that to no avail.
However, I finally figured it out by following advice from another forum post:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/changed-themes-only-3-widgets-appear?replies=9panaghiotisadam @vanjoygree: I’m quite familiar with what you’re describing, because as a volunteer in the forum I often switch themes to check various things. My original post here still applies, I’m afraid: you’ll have to load each theme you’ve tried, find out which one has added widgets and remove them.
It was a pain in the butt to go back to each theme and remove all widgets, but it finally worked. Eureka!
