Links widget functionality or equivalent within a page (not in a footer)
-
Is there a way to automate display of the list of blogs I follow within a page? Something similar to the way the Links Widget works? Or is there a way to place that widget within to body of a page?
The problem with using the widget itself in footers and sidebars is that the growing use of smart phones seems to make those pretty much useless.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No. Widgets display only in sidebar or footer areas.

The Blogs I Follow widget cannot be “edited” as all it does is reflect your activity.
See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/blogs-i-follow-widget/You can create a blogroll or related sites no matter where they are hosted. You can create/edit a Blogroll in your Dashboard http://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/add-a-blogroll-link/ and then display it by installing the Links widget. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/links-widget/
We cannot enter links into the widget itself. The Links widget merely displays the links we enter in our dashboard “Links”. We enter a new link this way > http://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/add-a-blogroll-link/

I’m not looking to edit the widget. I want something equivalent to display the blogroll links within the body of a page.
Either can I enter a widget in a page, or is there an equivalent shortcode that calls the blogroll links?
-
And I missed the first reply which answered the first half of the question. Is there an equivalent shortcode or some other way to do this?
-
No. There is no autimatic solution for you.
What you can do is create a Page https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ and then manually enter all the links on it.
See the guide for creating links in posts and pages: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
This is the general link model:
<a href="URL HERE">Highlighted anchor text here</a>This is the visual result – it’s not actually linked here in the forum.
Highlighted anchor text here1. Enter the relevant descriptive anchor text you want to link to first. Note that “here” is not a good choice. Use relevant anchor text to link to.
2. Then use your mouse to highlight that anchor text. (If you don’t highlight the anchor text the chain icon will remain grayed out and not be useable.)
3. Next, click the chain icon in the editor and proceed to create the link. -

I already use a page with manual links.
This is something that the developers ought to look at. Mobile phones make sidebars and footers (for widgets) pretty much useless on a site with infinite scroll.

If you want to make that suggestion in the Ideas Forum you can use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/ideas#postform
