listing installed themes

Either something’s not right, or I’m losing it. When I go to my control panel and click on “Appearance” -> “Themes”, instead of a listing of my installed themes, I get the page to add themes, listing ‘Trending” (default) or “Popular” or “Newest”. No way to see my installed themes and perhaps activate a different one.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Good evening,
Are you using the wp-admin dashboard? If so, I don’t think it tells you outright which theme you’re using at the top.

Looking at my own dashboard, it lists lots of different theme options; the one that you’re currently using will have a grey bar across the bottom of the theme picture, and it will say, “Active: Whatever the Theme is Named

To change your theme, run your mouse over one that looks interesting; two options will appear–“Purchase OR Activate” and “Preview”. Not all themes are free (though many certainly are!) and you can preview lots of options through that ‘preview’ button.

If you would like more information about themes, please click here to read the help document.

I hope that helps! Have a wonderful evening.

Yes, it shows which theme is active, but I thought the other themes listed were supposed to be those actually installed but not active – with an ‘add theme’ button that would take me to the list I’m currently seeing – essentially a list of all themes available for download and install. It’s been a while since I’ve been to this particular page so perhaps I’m remembering wrong. The behavior I’m expecting is what I see on a WordPress.org self-hosted site, and I would have sworn that’s how wordpress.com behaved as well.

    Good afternoon,

WordPress.com behaves very differently from WordPress.org, and one of those key differences is how they support your theme.

.Com provides all sorts of custom themes online (380 or so), but does not let you install your own custom themes; instead, you can use CSS to customize certain aspects of it. Essentially, the ones provided are always available to you on the web (for free or for purchase) rather than ones you download or “install”.

.Org, meanwhile, lets you build your own themes with PHP and CSS as well as allowing you to find, download, and install themes from other sources outside of WordPress itself.

For a list of all the differences between .Com and .Org, please click here.

Additionally, here is a help document for options you might like as far as what you can and cannot do in regard to uploading custom themes. Click here for the link.

    Have a wonderful evening!
