Listing last five entry titles from a category

  I’m trying to make wordpress to echo the last 5 entries from my blog, in a given category. I spent hours looking in wordpress source code, but it was futile. I was looking for a function that is called when a category is selected (?cat=n), to select entries by category id. If there is some way to achieve my plan using wordpress functions please help me find them. Otherwise I will have to write my own function, getting the data straight from MySQL.
