Lists posts or Category sticky

    I want to have a page where I can include a short blurb and have the related category posts listed right after. I see two ways I could do this if I was self-hosting–the page with short code plug in or a sticky post for a category. Are there options I have with the free version of WP? Themes? Other widgets? Could I do it with the premium version? This is a project I am doing for a school group and need it to be simply and easily maintained (I won’t be doing it for long). Thank you!

    Hi,

    You can do that in a free WP.com site, regardless of the theme activated. Use display posts shortcode in a static page. See the Display Posts Shortcode support page. Add the blurb at the top of the page content, and insert the code below it. The example:

    [display-posts category="features" posts_per_page="-1" include_date="true" order="ASC" orderby="title"]

    will list every post in the “Features” category, in alphabetical order, with the date appended to the end.

    Essentially, you will be replacing the automatically generated category pages with your own customized category pages. So, if you create such pages and want to link to them in your custom menu, you’ll have to either modify the link URL of each of the corresponding existing menu items (e.g. https://childrenslitumn.wordpress.com/category/features/) to the URL of the page with the customized display posts shortcode, or delete the existing menu items and create new ones linking to the new pages.
