Live Support before becoming paid member?
-
I need a business plan, which won’t be cheap, especially as it requires a year-long upfront subscription payment. However, I have lots of questions before signing up. Where is the best place to get such questions answered? I need to sell photos, videos and magazine articles online, plus an online archive to safely store all of those types of digital files. Will WordPress be a good platform for me?

Hello –
This public forum is a great place for such questions. We can certainly answer those for you. Go ahead and share a bit more information with us.
Selling digital products as described is not a problem with WordPress.com.

What is the best Plug-In for stock photography sales? I had a look at a few reviews, and some users said the Sell.com Plug-In was frustrating and inefficient to use. Does WordPress have a preferred or recommended Plug-In for photo sales?

Right now you’re posting in the forums for the hosting provider, WordPress.com, and the only plugin we recommend for online sales is WooCommerce. We can make this recommendation because WooCommerce is owned by the same company that owns WordPress.com, and our Business Plan includes support for all aspects of that plugin.
But we cannot recommend any plugin we don’t make – you might get lucky and be connected via live chat to a specific support staff member who happens to run a site that sells photos, and that staff member would be able to recommend whatever they use, but that would then be a personal recommendation, and not a recommendation by WordPress.com itself.
WordPress is open source software made by a community of unpaid volunteers. Anyone who has the technical ability can create a plugin for that software, and there’s no such thing as officially preferred or recommended plugins for anything.
The closest you get to that is the “official” plugin directory at https://wordpress.org/plugins/, and the only thing making that official is that those plugins have been checked for adhering to the coding and security guidelines set by the open source WordPress project. A plugin being listed in that directory does not imply any kind of recommendation that it should be used.
For recommendations on what plugins to use for specific functionality your best bet is to search online: there are sites like wpbeginner.com and others that regularly do tutorials for specific types of sites that include recommendations of which plugins to use.
Or else you can ask in the WordPress.org forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ where the people who make and use these plugins every day answer questions – only someone who uses a particular plugin can recommend it.
