Livejournal Import Not Functioning

I would like to import my Livejournal over to WordPress, however the functionality is not working. It keeps giving an error that the username and password I have provided for my LJ are not correct and that I am now locked out of my LJ account for to many incorrect login attempts. The problem is, the username and password I am giving are correct, I have tested it at the LJ site and I am in fact not locked out.

I am looking to pay for the WordPress features, starting with basic. However, if I cannot transfer over my LJ, I do not want to start paying somewhere else as well.

Any help that can be offered would be appreciated.

    Hi @tigresssky

It seems like the problem is with LJ, not with WP, and a lot of people are having and have had problems with the import. Here’s a thread that goes through several different ways of working through the problem: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/import-from-livejournal?replies=52#post-2825464

    Hope this helps. :)

I tried to reply at to the thread you suggested, yet the topic has been closed so I cannot.

I am however confused by the response from the WordPress support within this thread. They state that the Livejournal API is unstable and that is why they cannot connect. However I was able to easily import my journal at https://www.dreamwidth.org/ with no problems.

Dreamwidth appears to be a significantly less sophisticated site than WordPress, so it seems odd to me that WordPress cannot perform the same task.

The only thing that WordPress stated they offered in their LJ Importer, that Dreamwidth does not, is transfer of the Livejournal scrapbook. As well as ensuring that the images linked within posts from the scrapbook, would appear within said posts in WordPress properly after import. I would love if this could happen, as my Livejournal has bee active since 2005, and I would rather not lose those particular pieces of connectivity in the import processes. Right now I am going through and correcting these missing images one by one within Dreamwidth. While a fun trip down memory lane, it is pain.

Anyway, my positive experience importing my Liverjournal to Dreamwidth leaves me to wonder if the WordPress team might be able to learn and incorporate the same steps that Dreamwidth has so that the WordPress importer will work? The only thing that is stopping me from signing up with WordPress is that I cannot get my Livejournal transferred. Yes, maybe the 2.99 a month that could be made from my signing up is small fish, but it is more than I pay right now with LJ or Dreamwidth for the same services, just on, what appears to be, less sophisticated platforms.
