Livejournal import not working

Hi guys,
Trying to import my Livejournal blog into WP but it fails immediately saying ‘Logging in to LiveJournal failed. Check your username and password and try again.’
Checked several times and my login and password are 100% correct.
Would appreciate any advice

According to this Happiness Engineer:
The LiveJournal importer has been broken for some time – they no longer allow us to connect to them to fetch your content from there.

Not convinced tho. Just tried importing my LJ to Dreamwidth and it worked like a charm. Clearly a WordPress’ problem.

The REST API might very well work, but that API works via a plaintext request, meaning your actual password is being sent over the net with no encryption at all. We’re not going to implement any importer using such an insecure method on WordPress.com

Well, honestly that doesn’t explain a lot to me. Unfortunately I am not a programer. I just need to import my blog. So it is clearly a WordPress’ job to make it work or to remove from WP tools if they can’t for some reason.
