LiveWriter Replacement

For several years I used Windows LiveWriter to post my blog essays thanks to a tip from a help forum member. A terrible crash wiped it out of my computer. I have an older version on an older computer, but that computer isn’t as easy to use and I’d rather not use it short of a big emergency.
I checked Microsoft and couldn’t figure out anything. What are people using these days?

Hi there,
When Microsoft stopped supporting LiveWriter they also introduced a feature directly in MS Word that allows you to publish directly to your blog. It should work basically the same as LiveWriter. This is dependant on you having a newer version of MS Office, though, 2013 or later if I’m not mistaken.

@kokkieh – There still doesn’t appear to be an official support guide for this option. Is there a reason for that?

I’m not sure, but it’s probably because it’s a Chrome extension we developed rather than a WordPress.com feature. It makes sense to add a mention to the offline editing doc about it, though. I’ll look into that, thanks.

I don’t know how to quote you in this forum, but I hope you find this anyway.
I may use something Google if it’s a matter of life and death (it usually isn’t) and there’s nothing else (there usually is). I appreciate the fact that you took the trouble to offer a suggestion and would be happy to consider anything better than Google (which is almost everything). :-)

Hello again @carpathianpeasant, the Chrome extension made by WordPressdotcom integrates posting directly from Google docs, but there are other options mentioned in the offline editing support document that @tt originally linked to.
Also if you do an internet search for “Live Writer” you might be able to find alternatives as well.

They no longer support LiveWriter, no, but if you already have it installed on your computer you can still use it, so the instructions we have for that are still relevant.
